Message from Deputy Executive Director

United Christian Nethersole Community Health Service (UCN) was founded in 1972 and took root in Kwun Tong District, serving the community for decades in accordance with Dr Edward Paterson - the founder's concept of “Hospital without Walls”. We believe that Holistic Health is the ultimate ground for all lives to face challenges. Having been entrusted by all service users, UCN provides professional, comprehensive and affordable primary healthcare service to the local community.

To precisely take care of Hong Kong people's needs in health, apart from Family Medicine Service, UCN developed rapidly in a wide array of services in half a century. Nowadays, UCN has turned into a versatile organisation with expertise in Dental Service, Chinese Medicine & Chinese Medicine Specialty Services, Community Nutrition Service, Emotional Health and Counselling Service, Physiotherapy, Diagnostic Imaging and Pathology Laboratory Services and Social Service. With the population growth, UCN's Community Health Centres extended service network to districts like Kwun Tong, Jordan, Tai Po and Tin Shui Wai to strive on protecting health of human well-being.

UCN has been witnessing Hong Kong's development of primary healthcare and the changes of needs for medical service from Hong Kong people. Last year, the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic severely interrupted and disturbed lives in Hong Kong. Masks have become our daily necessity, and social distancing isolated us from friends and families. As a medical healthcare organisation in Hong Kong, it is UCN's responsibility to give a hand to find a way out of the "new normality". We believe that a reliable COVID-19 test is the best mean of bringing resolutions in uncertainties. UCN collaborated with the government to be one of the official laboratories at the inception of the outbreak to provide innoxious, efficient and reliable COVID-19 tests. The laboratory issued requisite certificates for people's work and travel. Meanwhile, patients of COVID-19 drew our concerns. Is there any other conceivable way outs for them? The United Christian Nethersole Community Health Service - The Chinese University of Hong Kong Chinese Medicine Clinic cum Training and Research Centre (Tai Po District), among the eighteen training and research centres in Hong Kong, joined the Special Chinese Medicine Service Programme that collaborates with the Hospital Authority, to offer free Chinese consultation for patients staying in Community Treatment Facilities (Asia World-Expo and The North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Centre (HKICC)). A team of two clinically experienced Chinese Medicine Practitioners from the Centre proffer medicines and examination to patients under quarantine or with mild or no symptoms through the virtual consultation to promote their recovery.

UCN's vision is people-oriented and primary healthcare focused for Hong Kong people, conducive to the realisation of "Leading a Healthy Life". We will keep promoting primary health information among the population in various ways in future. We see the pride to serve in Hong Kong for nearly 50 years, I hereby thank all the colleagues in UCN for appreciative and valuable contributions from the deep of my heart. And I hope all residents in Hong Kong would keep supporting UCN, instituting our milestones in the coming days and have joining hands to span across our 50th Anniversary next year.
